The Deal is Struck _Kovulwa_ by ~H-P-Lovecraft:iconH-P-Lovecraft:

It was a dark night, and one that was far, far away from Kylla and her worries. On this night, a gray light shone deep and bright down into a small crevice of Kovulwa’s landscape. There are five main cities in Kovulwa’s proverbial hub, one for each direction, then the middle. In between these cities are small, self-governing towns that are of nearly no importance. Only a few of these small towns are marked on maps. If you were to look carefully at an extremely recent map, it would read in small letters next to this blot of a town “Pollok”.

Pollok was smaller then most towns dotting the fringes of the cities, and was located just north of Jarrock, the eastern-most main city. It had a mayor, and that was its only form of government. Mostly people just lived their lives and didn’t worry about much else. In a way, outsiders viewed it as utopia, while the insiders viewed it as normality.

In a tiny shack on the eastern end of the town, there slept a boy. Or at least, he was sleeping until a gray light shone directly into his eyes through the window on the east side of the shack. The light woke the boy, and spoke majesties to him.

“Stand…” it whispered to him. The boy obeyed, not out of fear, but out of familiarity.

“Good…” the voice crooned. “Now, my boy… come to me.” He obeyed, walking at first towards the light, then on top of it. He followed it like a road leading up towards the heavens.

“Come closer…” The voice continued to whisper, eerily. The boy followed the gray light’s road further and further, until he found himself standing, seemingly, in mid-air on eye-level with stars. Only a bright, intangible, gray light separated him from falling to his death. He didn’t care.

“My boy…” The voice cooed. “Tell me your dreams…” And so he did. He spent the entire night telling a voice that bore no physical form before him about all his hopes and dreams. He talked about how he wanted to map the Feral Desert. He spoke excitedly about scaling the highest mountain in the Voltan range, the Arag Goramadu. His voice spoke brightly about how he wanted to sail the great sea that surrounded the continent to see what else was out there.

“Then go and do so…” The voice encouraged. The boy closed his bright red eyes and drifted into a sleep.

“My boy…” The voice told itself. “Cain, you shall do so.”
